Have some family fun in the snow when you stay at our Medicine Hat accommodations in winter.

Have some family fun in the snow when you stay at our Medicine Hat accommodations in winter.

Medicine Hat is the perfect place to seek some fun in the snow. Not only can you ski, snowshoe, ice skate, toboggan, and snowmobile, you can also seek some indoor fun when the temperature dips to frigid. Here we list some fun wintertime activities that are located just a short distance from the Comfort Inn and Suites Medicine Hat accommodations.

1. Ski at Hidden Valley

This unique ski resort, located in Cypress Hills Provincial Park near Elkwater, AB, is only 65 kilometres from our Medicine Hat highway hotel on the Trans Canada. With its 4,000-foot mountainous terrain, it is one of the few ski resorts in southeastern Alberta away from the Rocky Mountains. Beginners can learn to ski or snowboard on gentle slopes, while there is both cruising terrain and more challenging runs for intermediates and experts.

Other winter activities at Hidden Valley and Cypress Hills include:

  • Sliding down the Snow luge
  • Cross-country Skiing
  • Fat Biking
  • Skating
  • Snowmobiling
  • Ice Fishing
  • Stargazing at the Cypress Hills Observatory

2. Keep your Stick on the Ice

Most Hatters are happy to play a game of shinny on one of the many outdoor and indoor public rinks around town. The city is home to five indoor rinks and 24 outdoor skating areas that are free and open to the public. Show off your best pirouette or pick up your stick and show off your Trevor Linden moves in an ode to the former Vancouver Canuck captain and Medicine Hat native.

3. Visit the Nature Centre at Police Point Park

Get close to Mother Nature by snowshoeing or going for a winter hike in this 242-acre nature reserve located adjacent to the South Saskatchewan River. A 16-minute drive from our Medicine Hat hotel rooms, the Police Park Nature Centre offers a number of public programs throughout the season. The centre holds its Winter StoryWalk interpretive program starting in late-January.

4. Take Your Pooch to the New Saratoga Dog Park

For those staying at pet-friendly hotels in Medicine Hat such as the Comfort Inn and Suites, you’ll want to find dog-friendly places to take your pet so it can stretch its legs and get some exercise. Open year round, the recently opened Saratoga Fenced Dog Park is located near a hilly area in the South Flats area of Medicine Hat and allows dogs to roam and wander to their heart’s content.

5. Go Tobogganing at Kin Coulee Park

Known for its Toboggan Hill, Kin Coulee is a great place to take the kids for a day of sledding. The park even has a toboggan shelter, where you and the family can warm up afterwards with a cup of hot chocolate.

6. Wear your Orange

Search out that orange toque and scarf and head over to the Canalta Centre to watch the Medicine Hat Tigers play home games in the Western Hockey League. Who knows? You may be watching a future NHL prospect before your very eyes.

7. Head to the Shops

Just steps away from the Comfort Inn and Suites, the Medicine Hat Mall is one of the largest shopping centres in southwestern Alberta, with more than 100 stores and services. Grab a gift for the special someone and treat yourself to a meal before returning to your hotel room in Medicine Hat for a refreshing dip in our swimming pool and new hot tub!
